The Power of Hope

Do Not Underestimate Hope

What would you have thought of a lad who dropped out of formal education at the age of 16? Would there be any hope for this person? This person is Bob Hope. This man, Bob Hope, eventually became a very successful comedian, who starred in more than 50 movies. He died at a very old age of over 100. Hope, though born in England, at the age of four, the entire family relocated to United States. What can we say about our past? Have you allowed the cloud of your past to affect the sunshine of your tomorrow? The family or background you came from, you lacked control over it! But you have control over where you are going to.

1. Looking at Bob Hope's life More Closely:

Bob Hope tried his hands on many menial jobs before he became renown comedian. Before getting to the pick of his career as a successful comedian, he held many menial jobs...working in a soda shop, worked as a shoe salesman, newspaper sales boy, and as a delivery boy. Newspaper reporter and was an amateur boxer We might have had to try out some odd jobs in the past just to survive. Working at odd jobs gives us opportunities to discover what we want and don’t want to do as a career. You might find as useful, some of the skills you got while doing the odd jobs to apply in your future career. For instance, some menial job could help you improve on your communication skills.

2. Hope took dancing lessons

Hope received on-the-job training while appearing in vaudeville. To sharpen his skills, he engaged himself in dance lessons. Hope was such a good dancer, that he took over some dance classes to help his teachers. Do you have a passion that you would like to expand? Do you like rearing farm animals, singing, playing musical instruments etc., but don't know how to expand the passion. Do you like to participate in drama, play a particular sport, but would want to sharpen your skills? Different types of classes are held out there to help people who desire to improve themselves on some field or discipline.

3. Bob Hope was multi-talented.

Bob Hope was a successful dancer, singer and actor and comedian. He was exceptionally good and successful in comedy. His dexterity in singing, dancing and acting added to distinguish him as a great comedian, of which the primary purpose is to entertain his audience. For most of us, we are good in the things we do in our jobs and careers. Developing to versatility will make us better in those jobs.

4. Hope entertained Military Troops from World War II to Operation Desert Storm

He offered and organized major services that were meant to increase morale among military personnel. Bob for over sixty years toured many countries showing his love for the patriotic men and women of the armed forces. Is there something that you have been considering to give back to your community? Is there a charity in which you would like to raise money for them? What about supporting and encouraging young ones to explore a particular career or profession? 

He set a mark in giving back to his community. Bob Hope indeed was Jack of many trades, he, at the same time was master of all. He was a success at so many areas in entertainment. Bob Hope past never dictated to him what his life would be in future.
